Mängden digital information ökar explosivt
Informationen under 2008 motsvarar 3 kvadriljoner Twitter-inlägg
Under 2008 skapades totalt 487 miljarder gigabyte digital information, en ökning med 73 procent jämfört med föregående år. Det visar en färsk rapport genomförd av analysföretaget IDC på uppdrag av informationshanteringsföretaget EMC. Den totala mängden tillgänglig information har aldrig varit så stor och IDC spår att den totala informationsmängden kommer att fördubblas var 18:e månad. Den stora utmaningen enligt IDC är att ta hand om den ökande informationsmängden som skapas eftersom det hela tiden skapas mer digital information än vad det finns plats för.
Mängden digitalt material ökar konstant. Orsaken är bland annat ökningen av övervakningskameror, ökad digitalisering och ett ökat användande av internet. Den stora utmaningen är inte bara att lagra informationen, utan även hur vi på ett effektivt sätt kan klassificera, säkra och göra den sökbar, säger Per Ottosson, Country Manager på EMC Sverige.
487 miljarder gigabyte digital information motsvarar:
Omvandlat till sidor med text i vanliga böcker, skulle stapeln av böcker sträcka sig fram och tillbaka till planeten Pluto, tio gånger.
